History of TummyToys® Navel piercing has been around for years and so far, all that has been available is a steel rod with a screw-thread on the part that goes through your piercing- jewelry that can be extremely painful to insert and to wear. Complicating matters further is trying to secure the body jewelry by twisting a 3mm ball onto the 1.6mm threaded rod, all while bending over to look at your navel so that you can try to see what you are doing! I had many friends who wore (and complained about) belly jewelry, so I had to take the piercing plunge to figure out the concept. I just couldn't get my head around it until I got my own piercing. A) All TummyToys are made in the "industry standard" 14 gauge (1.6mm). We at TummyToys have spent a lot of time making sure that this part of the clasp is as safe and comfortable as possible- safer and more comfortable than the old-fashioned barbell. You do not have to run dirty, sharp screwthreads through your belly piercing anymore. Q) How deep a piercing can I wear TummyToys in? A) The bar length is 13.5mm or 7/16 of an inch. We at TummyToys have figured out that this will fit all but the deepest of piercings. If you are not sure of your piercing length, buy with the confidence that if you are not happy with the fit of your TummyToy you can return it for a full refund. Check my feedback! Q) Can I change the charms on my TummyToys? A) TummyToys with charms are not interchangeable since the jumpring is securely soldered shut. The only exceptions are the few TummyToys which have floating charms that slip over the clasp. Q) I am sensitive to some metals. Should I worry about the metal in TummyToys? A) All TummyToys are made from nickel-free solid precious metals. Our white gold is whitened with palladium instead of nickel- more expensive but a purer white metal. Most importantly, none of our clasps are plated with rhodium wich wears off with use. We use more expensive materials that need no additional "finishing". DO NOT buy gold-plated items as the finish can wear off and the material underneath is probably an irritant to your piercing. Here is a little secret: surgical steel contains a high amount of nickel and a lot of people are sensitive to it! Q) Why are TummyToys more expensive than traditional body jewelry? Simple. The standard barbell is a piece of stainless steel wire with a ball screwed onto it. Made in China for pennies, any charms or decorations are glued on. Our clasp is designed and manufactured in the USA. It is precision cast in precious metal. All charms and gems are set with metal and soldered on. True jewelry! Q) Is there any maintenance or adjustment I may have to make to make my TummyToys snap better? A) You can adjust TummyToys quite easily. Just remove the TummyToy and keep it open. Place your thumb tip on the open front part of the clasp and your other thumb tip under the end of the bar that goes through your piercing. Gently bend the back bar up a little bit, you should feel it yield slightly. Try the clasp again and see if it regains its snap. It may take a couple of attempts. If you go too far, don't worry. Simply bend it back the other way a little bit... As far as maintenance goes, a quick polish and a wipe with an alchohol swab is a good idea any time you insert a piece of body jewelry.
